Presentations of all awards will be made during the Australia Day celebrations on January 26, 2025 at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool. Electronic nominations will be accepted.

General Information
Nominations must be submitted on the official Cobar Shire Council Australia Day 2026 Nomination Form.
A maximum of one award for every category is presented annually on Australia Day additional information can be included in a separate document along with details/ copies of any other awards or supporting documents (i.e. newspaper or magazine articles about the Nominees and their achievements).
The decision of the judging committee is final.
All awards will be announced and presented at the Australia Day Ceremony on January 26th 2026.
An individual or an organisation may submit nominations.
The Australia Day Awards Committee will be the judging panel consists of the Mayor, one Councillor, one Cobar Shire Council Staff representative and two community representatives.
Nomination forms are available from the Cobar Shire Council Administration Building, Cobar Shire Library, Nymagee and Euabalong Libraries, Cobar Visitors Information Centre and the Cobar Shire Council and visitcobarshire.com.au website.

Australia Day Awards Criteria
Citizen Of The Year
Section Criteria:
Has made an outstanding contribution to the community in a voluntary capacity.
Has been an inspiration/ role model to others and demonstrated vision and leadership.
Has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the welfare and wellbeing of the community, that have short or long-term benefits for others.
Achievements can be a single outstanding achievement in the last year or numerous achievements over many years.
Demonstrates good citizenship, determination, creativity, enthusiasm, commitment and a demonstrated search for excellence.
Eligibility Criteria:
· Be an Australia Citizen.
· Be a resident of the Cobar Shire.
· Be 25 years of age or older on January 26th of the year the award is given.
· Nominees cannot nominate themselves.
Young Citizen Of The Year
Section Criteria:
Has made an outstanding contribution to the community in a voluntary capacity.
Has been an inspiration/ role model to others and demonstrates vision and leadership.
Has shown achievements in community activities, academic, sporting, personal, cultural, environmental and / or social responsibility.
Achievements can be a single outstanding achievement in the last year or numerous achievements over many years.
Demonstrates good citizenship, determination, creativity, enthusiasm, commitment and a demonstrated search for excellence.
Eligibility Criteria:
Be an Australia Citizen.
Be a resident of the Cobar Shire.
Be under 25 years of age or younger on January 26th of the year the award is given.
Nominees cannot nominate themselves.
Community Event Of The Year
Selection Criteria:
Made an outstanding contribution to the community.
Has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the welfare and wellbeing of the community, that have short or long-term benefits for others.
Ongoing Impact and benefit to the community.
Eligibility Criteria:
Event must be conducted in the Cobar Shire.
The Event must be completed or held in the year immediately before the award is given.
Conducted by a successful group or organisation.
Bossie Mitchell - Community Service
Selection Criteria:
Outstanding contribution to the community on a voluntary basis.
Provided service and commitment in undertaking activities which benefited and provided a positive impact in the Cobar Shire community.
Community leader who is held in high regard with strong ethical and community values.
Eligibility Criteria:
Be a resident of the Cobar Shire.
Nominees cannot nominate themselves.
Sports Person of the Year
Selection Criteria:
Shown significant levels of sporting achievement local, regional, state, national and international.
Demonstrates significant contribution to promotion, development and standard of the sport.
Role model to others and actively advocates for the Cobar region.
Eligibility Criteria:
Be a resident of the Cobar Shire.
Nominees cannot nominate themselves.
Kerrigundi Award
Selection Criteria:
Shown significant levels of sporting achievement local, regional, state, national and international.
Demonstrates significant contribution to promotion, development and standard of the sport.
Role model to others and actively advocates for the Cobar region.
Eligibility Criteria:
Be a resident of the Cobar Shire.
Be under 25 years of age on January 26th of the year the award is given.
Nominees cannot nominate themselves.
Service to Sport
Selection Criteria:
Longevity and service to local sports individuals, groups or organisations.
Service and dedication with voluntary commitment.
Demonstrates strong leadership, personal development, initiative and achievement.
Role model to others and actively advocates for the Cobar region.
Eligibility Criteria:
Be a resident of the Cobar Shire.
Nominees cannot nominate themselves.
Environmental & Sustainability Award
Selection Criteria:
Outstanding achievement by an individual or group that has achieved outstanding environment sustainability outcomes in the Cobar Shire area.
Contributes towards the preservation and maintenance of the community’s natural environment.
Recognises the outcomes of innovative principles and actions associated with developing sustainable communities.
Eligibility Criteria:
Be a resident of the Cobar Shire.
Nominees cannot nominate themselves.
Please note: Should the Australia Day Awards Committee not receive any suitable nominations for any of the above awards, the Australia Day Awards Committee will be under no obligation to present an award in the category.
